My Grandson has a maintenance loan for an undergraduate course at Kent. he started his vacation job at end of May but 3 weeks in had a knee injury and has been unable to work since. He has surgery at the end of this week. He applied to DWP for ESA/Income Support but was told he was inelegible. He cannot see whether the M Loan is for term time or 52 weeks.is this correct? his widowed Mother is on benefits herself and he has no other income.

He cant claim whilst he is a student. Only a few can in circumstances where they are pt or have a child, but it is very limited

He could contact CAB and see if he has an entitlemnt to SSP. Someone needs to assess what his employment situation was. There is a phone number for HMRC who he can check with if the employer is unhelpful.

He could go to his bank and see if he can extend his o/d. If hes really stuck for food hen he should see about accessing the local foodbank. Just google your area. Trussel Trust are the biggest. Very bad luck with the injury.
