Why should they be treated differently to anyone else? Surely all types of catheter care should be administered with the utmost of care, dedication and professionalism whether you be muslim, christian or atheist?

I agree.

I don't think Trigger was implying that they'd be treated differently; rather that their religion may prohibit intimate care in certain ways.

It may be better to ask in the 'Ask A Muslim' thread btw.

yeah thats been suggested.

Sigh

Im not saying they should be treated differently im asking how they prefer to be treated.
Reply 5
er, isn't that treating them differently?

though I guess if they want to refuse treatment it's their prerogative.

Hi there

Im writing an essay on catheter care which as you may agree is an area of intimate care. I need to know how muslims feel about health care professionals caring for them intimatly and is there any literiture on what is acceptable for muslims?

thanks

If you would brief me as to what catheter care is, I could attempt a reply.

of course it isnt :s-smilie:

If yo didnt want a female nurse washing you i wouldnt wash you, thats treating you differently due to your beliefs. Im merly trying to determin what is fact and what is fiction concerning what ive been told.

Male/female contact should be avoided if at all possible.

Placing a latex tube into you uretha and bladder to drain off urine. The care would mean i would have to pay particualr attention to your genitles to stop any infection or bacteria growing. I need to know if it matters if a different sex does it, if a health care proffesional washes your genitles.

cool

Basically Muslims would be more comfortable if a doctor/nurse of the same sex treated them.
Reply 12
is there any issues with someone outside the family washing you?
Reply 13
Nope, as long as its someone of the same sex, it isn't a problem.

nope id doesnt matter who does the washing, but if for example if the patient is a female, then if there is a female nurse then the female nurse should do the care. However if there is no female nurse then it is permissible for a male nurse to do it.

is there any literature on thenet i can reference from that you know of? OR A reference in the Quran/bible?

Basically, i believe in Islam that only the people of the same sex can wash you but sometimes the circumstances are such- as like if you have a female consultant and he needs to check something (some part of the body) then as a modern muslim i would not object!

make sure you're searching for "genitals" not "genitles"
