Hi all - just wondering what Masters students normally do with respect to having their dissertations proof-read? Does anyone pay for someone else to do this? If so, what would be the going rate for a 20,000 essay? Or do most people get family/friends to do this? If the latter - do you pay them? How long would it take for someone to proof-read a thesis this long? thanks in advance...

Family and friends. With using a service you'll have to shop around but be very careful about using a reputable one.

i was thinking the same. i did my lit review before the holidays and had comments from my tutor on grammer. i've seen lots of services with big discounts, but their English is worse than mine. if you find someone good, let me know.

If you involve anyone who monetises proof-reading, there's the risk that they will also sell your content online to whoever's in the market for buying 20,000 word studies. Ask a family member. The time taken to read will depend on their familiarity with the subject and the clarity of your own writing. It's much quicker, but less comprehensive, if you just ask them to read for spelling or grammatical errors.
