I had sex and did not use a condom today. I'm 18. My period calender says I have a high chance of pregnancy. I'm going to go to the clinic tomro to get an emergency contraception but if I didn't what are the chances that I would become pregnant? and also how many months can you leave it until you are no longer allowed to have an abortion?

At your most fertile, it's about a 50-50 chance. You could get emergency contraception from an A&E or many out of hours chemists: as it works by delaying ovulation, the sooner you take it, the better. Alternatively, you can have an IUD fitted. As well as making it very unlikely that you'll be pregnant now it will also act as a reliable form of contraception in the future.

Pregnancies, and thus the abortion rules, are timed from your last period even though that means they're out by about two weeks. In England, Scotland and Wales, the limit is currently 24 weeks or just under six months. If that's the route you're going to take, if necessary, the earlier you do it, the better.

    A&E seems a bit extreme...

    Oh I see thank you
