So more athletics from respective countries can participate. Olympic spirit is not about winning, its about participation.

Problem is: no single country will be in the top 5 of the medal count then, and that'll make you lot feel as insignificant as you are as single, small countries. But hey, post-Brexit UK has to pick a poison...

Which small insignificant country are you talking about? Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland or England?

It's unlikely we'd be allowed to. Generally the IOC only accept as new members independent states or distant overseas territories. It's different in other sports like football and rugby because there the separate teams predate the membership rules.

Weve always competed as GB in the Olympics.

Its onst football and its a lot harder to gave the organisation for each individual sport. OP makes no sense as usual.

It can't. The United Kingdom is the state and so is only entitled to one team. We only maintain separate football teams because we invented international football and thus could set the rules ourselves, largely to the annoyance of other countries.

    Nor would we want to.

That would encourage a sense of nationalism in those other regions.

    Also it's about winning.

No, don't agree with this. We should remain united as one country within the Olympics and send a combined team.

It also will help us as a country - more competition for our places and in team sports and events which require multiple people (eg team cycling events), we have a larger pool to pull from.

Also, helps to strengthen and unite the country when we're all playing together on the same side.

If anything, we should do the same with football, cricket, rugby etc.
