Rape - raising awareness

Hi, I'm sorry if this kind of posting is not allowed on here, but if a few people read this then I hope it will help them, or encourage you to think about this whispered topic as a girl I met online calls it.

She is trying to raise awareness about rape, and about how people should think about how they would be able to help turn something negative like rape into something positive for themselves, or if it happened to someone they know.

Basically the help for victims of rape in Europe is disgusting, and I've experienced it myself too.

And I suppose what she is trying to do is something like what breast cancer awareness is trying to do - get people thinking about it so that hopefully they will be more ready to be positive about their lives should something terrible happen.

I don't know if any of this makes sense, but it's an issue so close to my heart and I wish I could write more clearly about it.

I just want to say how sick it makes me to read EVERYDAY in the paper about rape cases. It is bloody terrible and makes me so angry that women have to still deal with such abuse in 2007! :frown: I couldnt imagine how much it must stuff up their poor victims lives.

I know blackswan, it does happen everyday, and not even half of it is reported in the newspapers. Yet even though there's something in the papers everyday, the support is basically non-existant. :frown:
You are doing a very good thing by raising awareness. Good luck to you :hugs:. And I really hope you get over the flashbacks. I know how horrible they can be as I get them too (but from something completely unrelated).

it makes me feel better knowing im not alone and that other people feel the way i do and have flash backs
*hugs to you all i know how it feels*
My boyfriend was sexually attacked, and he has been able to turn it into something positive.
He is a Christian, and although he does not practice his religion 100%, he believes that it was Gods will for it to happen, and he must use the experience to help make others aware of the evil surrounding the situation.

It has helped him cope, as he can channel his emotions into positive things - in particular art. I'm quite proud of him for that, although as his girlfriend it's hard as some of the images he produces can be unpleasant.

I think awareness is a really important thing... and male attacks too, as it is not often as highlighted when rape is discussed.
I agree, raising awareness of rape is so important, and not enough is done or said about it.
It's strange the way there's so many campaigns to raise awareness for different types of cancer and illness, but nothing for rape, which can destroy a person. It needs to be given a higher profile I guess.

God, the awareness for male attacks is so so bad, there's www.swindonsurvivors.com (I think that's the website) but as far as I'm aware that's the only support for males. He can email Steve I think is the man who set it up, through that website if he'd like to talk to a male about it... or talk about whatever.

I admire you for being there for him too, it's not easy on any partner either

Take care of yourselves, and maybe he might like to go along to the survivors march up in manchester (or was it birmingham I'm confused now lol)

Thanks

Yeah, there isn't much about male stuff at all. The only info I could really find was more about child sexual abuse and not attacks as such.

I guess men aren't initially the victims you'd think of.

I found a website with links to all the different help groups in various parts of the UK http://www.aest.org.uk/helplines/uk_survivor_male_helplines.htm
