I have dyed my hair before but I went to a new hairdressers today who gave me a patch test (to make sure I don't have a reaction) and she said to leave it on for 48hrs, is this really necessary as I'm going for a meal tomorrow and I don't want it to look weird on my neck (behind ears)

Would I be able to wash it off when wash my hair tomorrow morning or shall I just leave it and leave my hair down so it won't be noticeable

I think it would be best for you to have your hair down and leave it - hairdressers put this on your skin to see if you would be allergic as the dye will come into contact with your scalp... this is sort of like a prevention... like a long exposure, just to make sure that it doesn't have a long-time effect. So, if you were to wash it off, they wouldn't be able to know if it will cause a problem.

Honestly, just leave it on, don't wash it off! Your body can change and become allergic to something it was fine to before, plus if its a different brand, different chemicals can be used. It's better to be safe than sorry as you don't want your hair to fall out or react weirdly to the dye once it's dyed! And when you wash your hair put a plaster over the patch of dye so it doesn't wash off.
    Hope this helped
