If you are about to embark on the GDL or final year of a law degree, and hope to take/get the BPTC and pupillage in consecutive years, you will doubtless know that applications for both are necessary during this coming year.

    i.e. 2016/17 final academic year
    2017/18 BPTC
    2018/19 pupillage

The NEW Gateway dates have applications between 9th Jan and 6th Feb 2017, with offers being made on 1st May 2017 for 18/19 pupillage.

And yet the BARSAS timetable (http://www.law.mmu.ac.uk/wp-content/...cant-Guide.pdf) has first round offers (for 17/18 BPTC) requiring acceptance by 4th April 2017. This seems to me to make a nonsense of the main reason for moving the Gateway earlier, that no-one is required to commit to the BPTC without knowing if they have pupillage.

I can see that it is technically possible to apply for BPTC later and be in the second/clearing round, but who would do that if you wanted to get your first choice of provider. What am I missing? These dates just don’t seem to make sense.
