Decided on taking a gap year earlier in the year, and apply September 2016 (rather than last year) to hopefully get an unconditional offer within the coming months.

Want to apply for history at oxford, economic history at LSE etc

Received results today: A*A*B (History, Economics and Maths). History and Economics I managed to get full/almost full UMS, maths was a mid B.
    AS results were: AAAA
    GCSE's; 11A*'s

If I manage to have a good personal statement/interview/HAT test etc, will I have a good chance at competitive courses such as those mentioned, despite receiving a B in maths?

Would it be wise to retake 1/2 maths modules to push it up to an A/A*, or due to maths being completely irrelevant to history will it be disregarded to some extent?

    Many thanks!

Unfortunately, you haven't met their entry requirements so they may not consider you. Whether they'd consider you a good candidate if you reapplied while retaking maths is anyone's guess, though.

Your best bet is to contact the colleges you are interested in and ask them for a view. The HAT is an important factor and given your A*s it's possible that a good result in that would 'cancel out' the B in Maths. Just leave it for a few weeks before getting in touch
