I just found out that I missed my uni offers and would rather take a gap year and reapply next year and resit those a level exams. Now i'm looking for placements (year in industry or similar) and work that I can do. I know it's very late but any ideas where I can find something even if it starts a little later than autumn 2016?
I'm looking specifically for computer science related jobs but anything engineering related is ok. I've already checked EDT. I'll be looking through job website and calling companies even if it's unpaid, but i'd much rather get something more hands on.

    Thanks

Without experience it will be extremely difficult for you to get a job in such a specialised field without any previous work experience.

How old are you if you don't mind me asking and how many GCSEs did you obtain? The only way I think you could possibly get hands on experience and a job at your level is if you done a Level 2 or 3 apprenticeship in one of the fields of IT.

I am 18. Sorry I don't think I was very clear. I just received a level results and didn't meet the requirements for my firm or insurance.
    I got 7A* 3A 1B at GCSE and A*ABBa (I did 5 as levels and 4 a levels). I'm sure I can get A*AAA next year.

I'm trying to get experience to boost my application for reapplying. I have done a lot of programming for my age I would think. I've been researching but i'm realising that its hard finding something with such short notice for a gap year as I have no higher qualifications.
    Any help?

I've limited myself quite a lot with the unis i'm happy to go to (not just based on how good they are). That basically narrows it down to my firm and insurance. I did call some unis and got a place through clearing just in case, but i'm willing to reapply.

Apprenticeship applications tend to be as long as the university application process, so starting an apprenticeship in 2016 is unlikely to be an option.

I'd suggest blanket emailing potential employers with your situation as a covering letter may be a good idea.
