Reading is soooo boring

Is there any way of making reading more interesting? Its not the actual reading that i find boring i usually love reading but its the text that i have to read for uni are so awful, i read just a few pages and have to stop myself from going to sleep. Its hell cos i have to read these books at least twice for my degree and i can't stand them. They are just so deathly boring.

Try and make as much innuendo out of it as you can.

Is this a dagger i see before me?
no its a penis!

hm could work :p:
Read in short sessions, have lots of breaks inbetween.
That way you wont lose concentration so badly!

Just get the book read as quickly as possible.

A stratagem I used to plough through many of the tedious books that I had to read throughout my Higher English days. Even if you only get the gist of it due to lack of interest, at least it's something. And if you don't like that, then you're screwed.
Turn it into a comedy, or as someone said, think of it with lots of innuendos. :p:

Axiom's idea is a good one. I used to just sit down for a whole day and plough through horrible books as quickly as possible then write essays on them.

How on earth do you make innuendos from Do androids dream of electric sheep and 1984?

i am interested in the degree i like analyisng the books after i've read them and i adore Shakespeare and poetry, its just the rest of the books i have such difficulty getting into.
Have you tried focussing on an aspect of them that you like? I think it's easy to get bogged down with stuff if you feel negative about it, so maybe if you can find a theme in them that interests you then they might be a bit more easier to plod on with.

Out of interest, have you read them before, and if not are you far into them? Both Androids and 1984 didn't leave me feeling very enthusiastic after the first chapters, but I really got into them and they're two of my favourites now!

OP, don't just read it, make notes from it at the same time, maybe?
Highlight the important parts, talk to your friends about it. All these things help  They did when I was studying for exams.
Hmmm, I saw the title of this thread and thought you were dissing my hometown!

Still, you'd be right, though....

Watch the TV/film adaptions, if there are any. My school always did this to entertain the ones who hated reading.

Are you doing an English degree? Because you must have known that you'd be reading a range of texts.

How can you be bored reading 1984?! It's really interesting...when I saw you were finding your course books boring I thought you meant something really hard core like some very difficult maths/physics books...

I would say reading out loud helps, even if it's only to a stuffed toy. Or if all else fails, read the summaries on sparknotes.com...you may find it easier to read the books themselves once you know the story.

Read it to someone who is doing the same degree as yourself. Then ask them to do the same thing for you. It might make it slightly more interesting I would imagine.
