im currently thinking of getting a corsa in particular the old models about 1993 because the new models i think are a bit girlish but has anybody got this car whats the max speed it does. out of the polo, golf, corsa, clio and all the other first car types ones which one is the fastest or which one has the most potential to be the fastest after a few modifications keeping insurance in mind as well?

It depends on the engine init man. Just stick to a 1.2 init and get some bad body kits on it init.

Ands just get some max power stickers and you will be bad boy star.

As soon as you start modifying the cars performance. Your insurance will go through the roof.

and if you don't declare modifications your insurance become void. However as it's only going to be a 93 Corsa which will be worth around 500pound, might aswell get 3rd party and do what you like with it.

:p:

Why does it need to be fast, especially if its your first car?

BTW a lot of insurance companies these days wont even insure under 25s for any modifications whatsoever. I know when I bought my Mini last year I had a major panic because Direct Line weren't convinced everything on it was factory standard, obviously it was though so it was ok in the end. But they refused to insure me if there was any extras on there

Whatever you do to a 1993 Corsa, it's never going to be fast and if you start putting bodykits and Lexus lights on it, it's going to look stupid and people will (rightly) laugh at you. If you get it, just leave it stock and you'll have a nice little car - they only look stupid modified. Personally, I'd be looking at a Golf GTI mkII....now that's a proper fun hot hatch, but insurance will probably be a bit steep.

Yep, modified Corsa B is a national trademark of the ultimate chav mobile.

Instead of wasting money trying to make a slow car look fast along with embarassing yourself, you may aswell save the money that your going to spend on induction kits, exhausts etc which will also bring up your insurance. Drive a standard Corsa B for a year and then once you've got 1ncb buy old golf GTI etc

However it's upto you, your money. Also there are a fair few insurance companies which let you declare mods, I think most do, but you have to pay extra.

Corsa B's can look nice before you start slating them. They don't handle though.

Anyway, a nice tuned X16XE in a Corsa B, inlet manifold, 4-2-1 exhaust manifold with a straight through exhaust, enclosed induction, cams and a remap will defo see a nice healthy gain and keep up with 106 gti's, in a straight line at least

I don't think you're doing your argument many favours there

 look at the last one! God help you if you hit a pot hole...looks like it's riding on bump stops. Though I suppose the roll cage will keep you safe. I'm glad people modify cars like that....gives me something to point and laugh at. If you want a cool looking fast car, you do not start with a Corsa as your base. Fine when they're stock, absolute crap when modified.

Cant stand modified cars, they look terrible and most of the time they just arent practical either.

Why do you want a fast first car? Surely if you've just passed your test you should be concentrating on improving your driving ability first before bombing it up a dual carriageway or something; just because you passed your test doesnt mean that you're one of the best drivers on the road. IMO everyone still has a lot to learn about driving long after passing their test.

Are you tryin to say they're chavved up?

Chavved up is lexus lights, silly bodykits. Subtle bodykits, or even standard bodykits are not chavvy

Spiffy, explain why it isnt practical? What will it not do that your car will do?

Wont go over a speedbump?

Seriously, I live in an area where there are loads of quite high speedbumps and I've seen cars that have these bodykits so low that they scratch all the front of them up or even break parts of them off trying to go over them. Its the owners fault really for putting kits on that are so low to the ground but as long as it looks good they dont care.

Have to agree with you Spiffy.

For a first car you want something cheap to insure, safe and reliable. You don't want a fast car - as insurance will be too expensive that you can't afford to own the car.

Its up to you if you decide to buy a 1.2 corsa, and spend hundreds of pounds sticking stuff onto it. But people will laugh at you

A 1.4 16v fiesta is quite quick, about 89bhp and 0-60 in about 11s (lol) , but you're going to find it hard to be able to afford a car faster than that.
The grey Corsa looks awful.

You really dont want a fast car as a first car. My Mate passed his test and got a Passat 1.8 turbo. Its seriously quick but he drives like a maniac, so much that our 6th form banned him from parking in the grounds. Its just too much hassle.

safety when you first take your test should take much higher priority over speed, I don't even know why you need such a fast car. Don't be an idiot and become another statistic, please

The 1.25 Zetec Fiesta MK4 produces a healthy 75bhp and is cheap to insure  providing its kept basic. They were the best handling superminis of that generation even better than the 106. Most the media gave it 5/5 for driving.

I have the old Fiesta MK3 and the best thing about is that every right down to the radio is original.
The mk4 fiesta was car of the year in 1996 or 1997 I think. And Jeremy clarkson said it was his best car of the year at that time. It has a much more modern interior to rivals of that time.
