So I got into my first choice uni today and was so so so happy. I honestly did not think I would get the grades. However, now that it has sunk in I really can't stop crying. I know I will love uni life, but I'm really close with my family and I will miss them so much. I can't bear the thought of leaving my mum and we have both been crying about it today. Basically I'm terrified to go to uni and don't know what to do my uni is 2 hours away. Is it possible to ring up tomorrow and defer for a year?

You can ask to be considered for deferred entry yes. However that won't change anything, just delay it by a year. Consider that 2 hours isn't that far- its near enough for you to have a weekend at home when you want or for family to come up and visit you (however I wouldn't reccomened either whilst your still settling) and with skype, facebook, mobile phones e.c.t you can talk to your family every day if you wish.
