So I got into my first choice uni today and was so so so happy. I honestly did not think I would get the grades. However, now that it has sunk in I really can't stop crying. I know I will love uni life, but I'm really close with my family and I will miss them so much. I can't bear the thought of leaving my mum and we have both been crying about it today. Basically I'm terrified to go to uni and don't know what to do my uni is 2 hours away. Is it possible to ring up tomorrow and defer for a year?

You could defer but is putting it off a year really going to help, you have to leave home at some point, why not now?

It is tough I know, but you can visit like every 2 or 4 weeks, phone up etc. It is tough and even I find it particularly difficult, mostly on the first day when they say their goodbyes after dropping me off, but it should get easier.

If you think about the alternative though, hanging around for a year and not really doing much since you have a uni offer.. I dunno, you may slightly regret it or face more (or maybe less) of a dilemma next year.
