i took 5 AS subjects (bio,physics,literature,chemistr y,math) and i got AAABC in that order. is the BC detrimental to my application at a top uni?

No, Russell group unis have entry requirements from ABB-A*A*A*. It really depends what uni and course you want to do. If you're looking to apply to Oxbridge I'm not sure whether the B and C will be detrimental, however I'm sure they only require 3-4 alevels. Also these grades are only your as grades you can easily pull the B and C up to As in your A2 year.
