Is it true that unis may judge you more harshly or ask for higher grades than the entry if you retake A-Levels.

I know Oxbridge don't even let you apply if you retake, same with medicine I believe. How about other universities..Warwick, Loughborough, Surrey, Bath, Southampton, Reading, Newcastle..etc?

    Thanks

It is common practice for universities to make higher offers for resit candidates, yes. It's up to the university to decide, so there isn't a general rule, but you can understand why they would do so.

Each university has its own individual policy and this may vary by subject so you need to email admisisons for the course you want to take. As an example you are right with Medicine that some universities give a blanket no, however others do allow retakes, some want higher grades, some don't. When I was retaking my A2 exams and reapplying I didn't get any higher than standard offers- I applied to Leeds, Birmingham, UEA, Nottingham Trent and Portsmouth for International Relations. UEA even made me an offer that was at the lower end of their range. However things could have changed and may be different for other courses at other unis.
