Something like ice skating? Or just get on a few random buses and go through whatever city you're in, whilst talking to each other

Beach or lake? Nature trail in a local forest?

Sit and chat in a cafe. You'd be surprised how long you can make one drink last!

Go to cafes or pubs for a while, have dinner in a non-expensive restaurant and then have a walk somewhere. Some of my best dates have been just walks somewhere nice with a guy.

I'd say Ice-skating's a great one; cheap, and available when you want.

Also, the "going-out-for-a-coffee" does indeed work wonders. You'll come away all warm inside  and voiceless, because plan'd be, you'll talk/laugh lots. :p:

All the best

Hmmm, if you can, going to London is a good one, just pop on the tube and go around wherever you want, free museums, parks, etc.

You may not really be focused on the stuff there  But still, I find London so interesting, but it depends how expensive it is for you to get there from Manchester..

my bf and i whiled away 1.5 hrs in a cafe (pissing it down with rain) with a cup of coffee and a cake each plus the complimentary papers in the cafe!

have a picnic! If it's nice go to the park, if it's not so nice put a rug on your floor and make it like a proper outdoors picnic but indoors!
Also going for walks in the country is lovely, you could even stop into a nice pub for a drink and chat as suggested by others.

goto the museums or art galleries  they may seem boring but it's a nice thing to do, esp pick out all your favourite paintings that you would put in your house one day when you live together lol, i love doing that

download movies off the inet (tsk tsk me) and snuggle up to watch... or, get into a program together.. me and my bf missed alot of prison break when it was on tv ... so we downloaded it all and had regular prison break sessions together haha..same with Lost.. its nice to get so excited about 'whats going to happen next' together

Although more than just a one-off date, it may be a nice idea to go once a week (or every second week) to a dance class like salsa or something similar? It’s not that expensive and can be a great laugh.

Movie nights are great, blockbuster do 3 movies for 5 pounds for 7 nights, so we choose one together then i choose one then he chooses one, and at only £5 we can get a tub of cookie dough to share too.

I dance twice a week already, the whole point of me dancing was so my life did not revolve around him. He wouldn't want to come anyway.

Try some cheap restaurants - there are some surprisingly good ones for very cheap prices. There is an Italian restaurant near me that costs less than £6 for three courses, and honestly it is better than some other places that charge about £25.

One of the best dates I ever had was sitting in a cafe one afternoon after a meeting... it was the first time I felt really comfortable with him and was just lovely. Nothing like sitting in silence to feel really close to someone.
