    So, if I was -£500 into my overdraft and I put £2000 into the bank, would it mean I only have £1500 to spend?

    You would still have the rights to the overdraft, you would essentially be paying off the overdraft with £1500 in your account, but the £500 overdraft would still be there if you needed it.

    Overdrafts are the amount of money the bank will lend you.

    If your account balance is £0 and you have a £1000 overdraft, you can transfer and use that £1000 as if it was your own money. You will be -£1000 that will need to be paid back by graduation (or a year after).
