Do 4 year courses (such as those in Scotland), cover more material than those that last 3 (such as those in the rest of UK), or do they simply go at a different pace/level of flexibility? (Or both/other). And in the case they do cover more, what are the main differences/similarities between the 4 year Bachelor's and the 4 year Bachelor's and Master's?

Scottish First year is the equivalent of second year of A levels, ie they start on material about a year more basic. Their second year = 1st year of an England and Wales degree. Hence you have to do the 4th year at a Scottish university to get an honours degree.

Seperately, more 3 year undergrad degrees are adding a fourth year to do an integrated Masters degree. SFE will pay for this masters year in most (but not all) circumstances. Arguably however, and integrated Masters is not valued as much as a standalone Masters.
