What happens if you fail first year at Cumbria?

Fortunately, I've not but I know many students in my course who have failed one or multiple modules. They have retaken the modules (but it's capped at 40%).

I've been told that you need to pass all 6 modules in order to qualify for second year. So, I'm just curious to know, what happens if a student fails to gain over 40% on a module? Will they have to retake, transfer or possibly leave altogether?

Cumbria seems to be quite lenient compared to other universities. And the students who have failed haven't received their summer results, but they don't seem to be worried about the possiblity of failing their first year as "Cumbria isn't that strict". It's almost as if they feel the university won't kick them off... Anyone got any information on this? Whether it be past experience at this or any other uni?

Thanks guys.
