Swollen Uvula

Ok this is slightly strange, and I suppose some people might not know what your uvula is, so it's that little dangly thing at the back of your throat that you never seem to think twice about....

Basically I had tonsillitis a couple of years ago, and one of the symptoms was a swollen uvula. It's really horrible as it gives you this annoying sensation and makes you gag half the time. Suddenly you realise it's there. But anyway, my uvula has swollen again, and i swear i haven't got tonsillitis this time... but i was wondering if anyone knew why it would swell up and how i can make it go away.... because its kinda making me feel sick...

How long has it been swollen? It's most likey just a throat infection that'll pass in a couple of days. Try some lozenges.

Most likely irritation/infection. Most liley harmless. Obviously can't make a diagnosis over the internet - see the doc if it doesn't pass in around three days.
Did you have your tonsils taken out when you had tonsillitis? I wouldnt really know about it, because i had mine taken out year ago. See if it subsides, if not, see the doctor
DO you have any allergies? Thankfully never had tonsillitis so I wouldn't know but I'd go for a mouthwash every few hours to keep it clean, and the old strepsils that always numb your tongue and not your throat! Failing that seem the dr tomorrow!
i had this happen to me about a year and a half ago... i had to go on antibiotics for it my uvula was swollen to 3 times its usual size and was constantly hanging down the back of my throat making me gag... really not a nice experience!

anyway I'd suggest get a doctors appointment asap. it could be recurring tonsillitis because that's what i thought mine was when i had my throat infection but seemed it wasn't

good luck
Try some boy cream or girl juice. Whichever takes your fancy.
as has been suggested by the more sensible posters

- if it is interfering with your airway and /or swallowing - get seen sooner rather than later

- if it is bothering you get it checked out - this is what GPs and wlki-in-centres are for
