i want to GAIN weight

Hi, well im 18 and am about 5,4 and weight 7st 13 pounds. i went to my doctor and she said im about 7 pounds underweight. i know how the majority of people talk about wanting to LOSE weight but all ive ever wanted to do is gain. ive always been thin, even through school i got teased because people thought i had eating disorder, but i really dont. im healthy so its not a medical problem, and i eat meals and snacks and pudding inc chocolate liek all the time im a chocaholic but NOTHING WORKS =( i jus twant to gain a little bit like 7 pounds but i have been tyring for about a month and stil not weight gain. Any tips i would be grateful. oh and by the way, my mum was the same weight at my age she was stick thin until she had me then she put on weight....but im not having a baby lol

mayb go to the gym. build up some muscle it is heavier than fat.

Um buy weight gainers? you can get them from bodybuilding online stores......basically its a powder and you can blend it into a shake and drink it.....it contains lots of calories buts its not too unhealthy - contains carbs and essential fatty acids. cheaper and healthier than stuffing ya face with maccy d's every day.

I am 5"4, 45 or 46 kgs (7 stoneish) and a petite size 6. I am aged 25 and the doctor has said it is unlikely I will put on any weight as I have a very high metabolism and it is genetic. My grandma and mum are super slim too

A lot of my friends are Latin American and West African so I used to feel skinny and small standing next to them when I was younger but now I am slightly older and the regular bits have *ahem* filled out rather well, I am happy in my own skin

People commented on my size but not in a nasty way, more in a "gosh you are tiny way"

You also have to get used to the fact that you have a certain body type and piling on more weight forcefully could cause your bones to suffer :smile:

it takes time to adjust though

ye im not flat chested of anything, i just would like to be heavier lol i dont know why, i suppsoe it would make me feel more normal, like all my friedns are a 10-12 and they share eachothers clothes and stuff, and i sometimes feel left out. BUT i have size 3 feet and they are a bit jealous about that =D so i suppose thats good

take in an extra 500 calories a day,

If your doc wants you to put on weight, ask her to prescribe you Fortifresh, Fortifruit, Fortisip or some other build-up drink. Complan, Boost or Ensure are also good

at 300 calories per 200ml serving (for the forti- drinks), by drinking 2-3 of these a day you'll gain weight at a steady rate. I had them prescribed when i was v. underweight through illness, and the smoothie ones are really yummy.... Esp. raspberry. God, i have a craving now....

What?! I weigh around 8 stone, usually slightly less and am only an inch shorter than you but I wouldnt consider myself undeweight.

My mum weighed only about 6 and a half stone until she had me aged 18. Granted she was definitely underweight but she didnt have an eating disorder or anythinh, just high metabolism.

Dont worry too much, enjoy life and dont worry about weight, there's NO WAY you're 7 pounds under.

It is actually much harder to put on weight than a lot of people think.

But i think the best way is to try and have 3 meals and 3 snacks a day... try and substiute drinks for milky drinks: e.g. normal tea/ coffee -> latte and stuff and use whole milk rather than semi/ skimmed. also add butter to sandwiches/ toast etc. and keep things like bananas/nuts handy to munch on throughout the day!

I think if she eats like herecomestrouble says she'll lose weight or stay the same because eating more often speeds up your metabolism. I agree with the milky drinks thing.

I would say just increase your portion size.

I dont think i could gain any weight, despite being smallish. If I eat more than I usually do I get bloated and feel sick. Much like having a gastric band hehe

Just to let you know, according to the BMI, you are in the category of 'normal'.

I don't know if this applies to everyone, but I've certainly put on weight in the last 2 years simply due to the fact that I was still growing (I'm 20 now).

I wouldn't worry about being that weight, if you got down to about 7 or 7 and a half then perhaps you may have to think about what you could do.

By the way, I bet those girls who teased you were deep down jealous of your weight.

Haha you have problems? I'm 5"7 and 8 stone. Putting on weight is a lot harder than people think!!! I have 3 meals a day and eat pretty much anything I guess it's just a high metabolism. Has your doctor told you to put on weight? If she has she could probably tell you how. Try seeing a nutritionist or something in fact I think these diet things on the internet tell you how to put on weight. But if you're happy with your weight don't bother because it's healthy for your height don't just gain weight because people teased you!

dont be silly, of course there is. Your metabolism is your metabolic rate. Your metabolic rate is the rate at which reactions take place within your digestive system.

not excactly, there's such thing as an overactive thyroid,making weight gain much harder. Also smaller appetite naturally with a smaller frame and different interpretations to what a "big" portion size is.Also some people exercise as part of routine so dont notice that this compensates for the calories when they eat "loads"

i understand how you feel... im 17, and i only weigh 7 stone...
But the thing is i eat and eat and eat .... well.. you get the picture...

i feel a little worried as your 13st at 18, and your 7 stone underweight?? lol xD

start having protein shakes or something, a couple a week should probably do the trick if you only want to gain a little wait. make sure you go to the gym 2-3 times a week to turn a bit of the extra weight into muscle. you won't end up like a body builder or anything but just putting on weight won't be healthy or look good. put weight on but give it something to do as well (gym).
