Hi guys was wondering if any of you have studied vet med abroad and how you got into it? Also did you get any help when it came to funding? Also do you know any specific companies to talk too ? Is your course accredited to practice in the uk?

I'm just finishing 4th year at UVM Kosice in Slovakia after doing an Animal Science degree in the UK. I love it out here, it's very practical based and class sizes are small so we all get to have a go.

For the General Veterinary Medicine (school leavers) course you need to fill in the application form and sit an entrance exam; you apply straight to the Uni not through a company. There's no funding so most people rely on summer jobs and family support, you can look at bursaries and business loans but you won't get a Student Loan.

We had an EAEVE visit last year and didn't get their approval which we knew would happen because of the timings. Since the visit they have built a brand new Small Animal Hospital and a new Ruminants Clinic, as well as hiring a European Diplomat in Equine surgery.
We are still eligible to register with the RCVS to work in the UK, it is more of a prestige thing - Bristol lost theirs a few years ago and got it back.
