Hi there. I have received a letter regarding work experience about a month ago and I do not have a clue on what to do. I am thinking of applying to a Children's hospital, but I do not know exactly what to do or the process of applying to a medical area. If anyone has done medical work experience or has any idea on how to apply or anything, please leave down your comments and suggestions below. Competition for medicine is also tough, so I am hoping to get applied for it by the time these summer holidays end. Also, I am aspiring to become a pediatrician when I am older, so if you have any other work experience suggestions I should do, please say so - it doesn't always have to be working in a hospital. Thank you.

    Hey,

The first time I did work experience at the hospital I went on their website and filled in the application form online. However, I called them a few days later and they said you have to email the form (so basically, try to contact the education centre or whoever's in charge of work experience in the hospital by calling) - this week was clinical skills based, so I practiced how to take blood and various other things while watching the junior doctors being assessed. It was a fab week but they didn't let me go into the wards as apparently I was too young. (This was in year 10)
However, this year I've got work experience through my Mum's friend who is a doctor. This is so much better as she can allow me into the wards so I really get the feel of what it's like to be a doctor! So if you have ANY medical contacts - use them
For the paediatric department it's most likely you'll need some contact in the hospital because they're really protective over the privacy of children/kids.
    GOOD LUCK!
(Whenever you go on work experience, don't be afraid to ask questions!)
