I was only ever inside Sheremetyevo Airport, several times, in transit to Tokyo. Apparently the airport looks very different to how it was around 1989,1990 etc. It was very dark and dingy and we were always there around eleven o'clock at night. Most of the lights were switched off,i'm assuming to save electricity. We had to wait for five hours for our connecting flight [I was a professional dancer on my way with 6 others to a 6 month dancing contract in Japan; one of a total of three contracts, and all involving flying with Aeroflot because our agent was a stingy skin flint]. Anyway, we were allowed to buy a few Russian/Soviet souvenirs. I still have my black T Shirt with red CCCP writing and hammer and sickle symbol. We all bought one. But we fell about laughing when we read the label. It said O'Neills. Made in Ireland. We sang Beatles songs to keep ourselves entertained. There were no other passengers from the flight in the waiting lounge with us. When we went to the toilet a cleaning lady followed us in. I mean immediately after us. I got the impression she was listening in to our conversation. The cafe was open and they were selling what looked like Coca Cola. The symbol looked almost identical. I asked the woman for a Coke and she barked at me, "It's Russian Coke". I bought it anyway. It tasted vile. There was a handsome blond soldier with a large gun standing nearby. He was gorgeous. We asked him if we could take a photo of him. The poor lad, he was only about our age, about 22 or so. He shook his head as if to say NO. We kept giggling and looking at him as he was so good looking. He looked absolutely terrified that we were speaking to him. Which we realised and just tried to speak to him and ask him for a photo even more. Such *****es,LOL.
