i intended to deffer anyway. its just that at my interview they asked me if i was taking a gapyear cos i was too young- i said "no i just want to have a break from education for a year and get a jod and learn to become more important" they shrugged and sai "we wldnta let u in this year anyway, you're not old enough"

ive got 2 research placements at labs in america. im starting one in early october with a cognitive neuropsychologist who has done research with phantom limbs in sunny california  . he also gave last years Reith Lecture on BBC Radio 4.

my second placement is at a research clinic where theyre working on cures for Alzheimers and Parkinson's disease.

should be fun- cant wait to go!!

im spending the rest of the year at home looking for a job. ive applied to about 15 places for the summer but have had one rejection and 14 no-responses ....i wanted to earn some money to cover my airfare! dont wanna scrounge of my parents anymore.....

Not exactly. My gap year isn't/wasn't a deferred-entry-thing but rather a avoid-issue-entirely thing. My decision to apply to Cambridge was largely last minute, as was my decision to accept the offer. This time last year I was looking to see if there were any nice courses which included or focused on Creative Writing.
