So I'm starting a new college in September and I'm so worried about making friends, I applied last minute so I missed the induction. This also means I don't know the campus, how things work, where to go, what to do and I'm so nervous! My social anxiety is quite bad so I'd like your thoughts & advice on what I should do! Thank you

    Hiya,

I returned to college after being out of the education system for 12 years. I was also accepted late due to waiting list and I missed my induction.

All I can say from my experience is that the classroom dynamics will change a lot in the first few weeks. As people get to know each other, they move seats etc etc. I used to try and sit by myself, but it's actually better to try and look for someone that gives a friendly vibe and just strike up conversation. As if it's okay that you come along for lunch as it's a new campus, if they don't know it either, then you can discover it together.

The people I sat with and spoke to on the first day, were not the ones I was hugging at the end of the year. Try and be open to new conversations, sit near people, join in group chats.

    Good luck!

I'm in same situation except I didn't apply late. Hopefully they not all crackheads.

I'm sure you'll adapt to the lifestyle easily with time. Making friends won't be too hard, but you can't be afraid to start a conversation with someone. Don't forget, if someone is in the same class as you, they clearly share a common interest with you! You'll be fine, keep your head up high and get your education completed.

You'll make friends so quickly honestly I'm not just saying that! on your first day just get talking to people in your lessons and befriend them and you'll probably meet more people over time through mutual friends as well! Just be super friendly and have an open mind- don't judge anyone on first appearances! They could pleasantly surprise you
