Can be done.
For those of you taking gap years this autumn, it's worth enrolling on a part-time course or an evening class at your local university, for example at Birkbeck, they have a stack load of courses that teach lots of transferable skills - http://www.bbk.ac.uk/study/ce/
It also means...NUS card, freshers week and all the benefits of being a student while possibly having a full-time job. NUS discounts plus full-time pay = :-)
