Hopefully there won't be a repeat of our horror show away at Sheffield Wednesday last season.

The solution to the League Cup problem has been staring me in the face for a while now, but I've not seen or heard anyone else mention it: merge it with the EFL Trophy, which is on the brink too, and make it a new cup.

In the new EFL Trophy Cup Championship Jug just have it so the Premier League teams are Under-23 teams, Championship teams can name three or so over-23s, League One and Two teams can have any players.

And if it's still ****, kill it, and then, wowzers, suddenly they've freed up some fixtures! How did that happen? Some sort of black magic?! And if you must give someone a trophy, give all the Premier League teams a number 1-20, then roll a 20-sided dice, it'll at least make the winner more deserved.

Having prem under 23's will not go down well at all with lower league fans.

League Cup is the only realistic chance to win a trophy for most PL clubs. Even for the top clubs it builds momentum. If Arsenal won it this year for example it would give them the confidence to kick on and maybe win the league

Didn't exactly do wonders for City last season though.

They gave up after Pellegrini said he was leaving. Liverpool weren't good enough to beat them

In the two years prior to that, the league cup winners also won the league

Every sodding League Cup winner says this and it doesn't happen. I still remember Liverpool saying it after beating the mighty Birmingham or Cardiff or something and it did nothing to their immediate (and bad) form.

Wait a minute, this was said about Arsenal when they won the F.A. Cup. They then failed to even mount a challenge in the one season where everyone was **** and handing them the trophy. Or the big hooha when Man City Kids won it, and there team is still infamous for being old and foreign.

The F.A. Cup is an incredibly realistic chance to win a trophy for Premier League clubs, and get into Europe. 'Big clubs' win the League Cup almost as much as the F.A. Cup, but it's more random due to no one really trying. It's a Midtable cup for teams that aren't concentrating on the league. Just give out random cups if you're gonna do that.
