Have any of you lot actually got to know a transexual, as it does seem rather wrong for you to proclaim them to be sick freaks without actually getting to know them. I have lived with a transexual and they are perfectly fine and nice.

Your reaction is too strong. I was merely pointing out the absurdity of discussing in those terms personal sexual preferences between consenting adults.
i am still waiting for a reaction by the exa-sexuals, though.

My reaction is too strong you say, once you have a brother who is transexual and with whom you have had to live with all your life, then you tell me my reaction is too strong.
I hate it the way people make light of transexuals or automatically professing hate of them.

<<<I would never think of professing hate for transexuals. What I want to stress is that consenting adults can do whatever they prefer in the sexual area, provided they abide with the penal code.

What I wanted to ridicule, is the approach to "unorthodox" sexual practices which you will find everywhere, in the media and, alas, also in UK-learning-net.

My apologises, although I was not specifically ranting about your attitude.

The penal code is often an arse and has been known to prohibit acts for reasons which are unjustified.

Unorthodox practices such as what exactly? You might be resticted in giving details due to censorship issues which have been mentioned, mainyl due to masturbation and porn comments in the GC section. You can PM me if you so wish.

Given what is already available on the NHS, sex-changes should also be available.
They are

Of course, you need to prove to them that you really want to change, which usually involves wearing the clothing of the opposite sex 24/7 and have a thorough phsycological review.

From my experiance (being a brother to a male - female transexual), the desire to change sex occurs at a young age, as my brother liked to dress up in girls clothing and call himself rachal (his chosen female name) from when he was about 8.

i was just interested to see how big a proportion of people are transsexual mainly because i want to see if it is on the increase in which case it could be argued that the psychological cases of wanting a sex change (not due to hormones and all the previous things that were mentioned) were partially due to the availibility of a sex change...

So you don't think that if people do feel that they are in the wrong gender they should be aloud to change? Even if this means that they are unhappy for the rest of their lives.

If they want to pay for it themselves, that's fine. If they have a medical problem which means they were born the wrong gender, that's fine too. What I have a problem with is spending NHS money on people who "feel they are the wrong gender" just to prevent them feeling unheppy, when there are so many more important things to treat.

There are other situations where this happens and a few have been discussed before.
