Do you guys think I should get one of my English Literature exam modules remarked? My total UMS was 213, 3 UMS off of an A*. For my overall grade to drop down to B, I would need to lose 21 UMS because the A/B boundary was 192 UMS.

I don't see a reason for you not to get it remarked. English is a very subjective subject so there's a big possibility of your grade going up. Especially since 3 UMS probably equates to 1 or 2 raw marks

I would probably do it because there is very little risk of going down a grade but a better chance of going up.

Thanks for the reply! I'm just e-mailing my school exam regulator now to ask for his opinion

English Lit is quite a subjective exam so it is more likely to gain marks from a remark than other types of exam e.g. Science. However, there have been reforms to remarks making it difficult to gain marks than in previous years, so I think I would be surprised if you gained 3 UMS - to be honest I'd only suggest a remark if it was 1 away. But it's up to you, as long as you're okay with spending the money, you haven't really got anything to lose!

Thank you ! Yeah, I was thinking that it would be super hard to gain another 3 marks... Oh well, I'm going to think about it.

I received my GCSE results last week. I gained a D in my additional science GCSE. When I contacted the school I was 8 marks off a C grade. School are not keen to put forward for a remark, as they say that this is too many marks away from a C. Has anyone got a remark with so many marks away in science and got a positive grade change? Many thanks

Honestly? It's really unlikely—especially this year but if you want it re-marked and are happy to pay then the school have to allow you to do it. Is it 8 raw marks or 8 UMS?

Nah man, in science they dock you marks if you lose a mark in a question. As they now change your mark depending on if it's a clear marking error instead of an interpretation, so teachers who gave you lenient marks marks would be the marks that remark examiners would dock. And as it's science were talking about, you WILL get docked other marks in the same question , if you think you did well enough to achieve that grade then it might be worth the gamble!!
