I'm hoping to get into Oxford of Physics. I got 4 A*s and 6 As, but i only got an A in Maths. I'm taking maths and further maths at A2 and am confident of doing well in those (idk what happened, must have just had a bad exam). I would like to know how damaging an A at GCSE would be to my application and whether or not I should resit it. It is also important to note I come from a very high performing school, the highest in my year was 9 A*s and a B, and several (3-5) others also out performed me.

    Thanks in advance.

Resitting your GCSE in Maths would be pointless.

What is more important for an application for Maths at Oxford are your AS grades in Maths and Further Maths and performance in the MAT.

An A in GCSE math won't make or break your application. In fact, you will see that A-Level Math is nothing like what you saw at GCSE level.

I wouldn't be so confident about maths and further maths A-level. I know people who got A* at GCSE maths and got D's at AS maths. Focus on nailing your AS before even thinking about oxford.

    No point in resitting.

The main thing taken into consideration when giving out offers is the PAT (Physics Aptitude Test) and the interview.

Since you will be doing the new A levels, your AS grades won't matter too much. So just focus on getting ready for the PAT as you need to score above the cut off point to get invited to interview.
