On results day my grades weren't sent to UCAS, I assumed this was a mistake at first, but after over a week the exam centre is now telling me for the first time that I have to tell them that I would like my results cashed in and on top of that I would have to pay £20 each for some of the papers after already paying around £120 for each of them in the first place.

This seems really backwards to me, wouldn't I obviously need them cashed in for the results to be worth anything, and is it normal to have to pay an extra charge to cash them in?

I already know what grades I got, but I need the statement of my final result to do anything university-wise. Can anybody enlighten me on this please?

I can't say for sure because I've never been in this situation, but it sounds more like an admin fee than anything important. I'd speak to the exam centre and explain that you were told nothing about this charge before and you don't think it's fair that you've been told to shell out all this money at the last second.
