I have Unis from across the country on a shortlist, but can only make it to 1 of these southern universities for an open day.

I want to do film and/or TV, and be employable afterwards, so a heavy practical element is always good.

I have looked and looked but I can only get so far with stats. Any advice for students, former student, or wise old sages?

If they are courses that hold interviews, you can often get more of a feel for a place based on their interview style.
Do you agree with the PM's proposal to cut tuition fees for some courses?
