It's happening already. They started teaching new specs in September 2015 for some subjects and they will all have changed by September 2017.

Some courses have changed already from September 2015, especially the Science subjects and English Language/Lit. All of the courses will change by 2017.
There is no change in the grading system, like the GCSE for example. The major change is the specification and the assessment of examinations. For example, for the Science courses, the practical assessment will no longer contribute to the A-level grade. An extra certificate will be provided with ''Pass'' or ''Fail'' only.
Also, AS-levels have lost its significance now, as they are stand-alone qualification which does not contribute to 'half' of the marks gained at A2.
In addition, exams will be taken at the end of every summer. Re-take opportunities are no longer present in January.
