Is sheffield a good uni for investment banking?

Is Sheffield uni good for going into Front office investment banking? Im doing chemical engineering (Masters). (Compared to Nottingham, Leeds, Bath etc). Does uni choice matter more than degree performance +internships/work experience?
You need at least a 2.1 to be even considered as an applicant at an investment bank, so yes degree performance matters more than choice of university.

Degree will alwaysmatter more but Sheffield isn't one of the main feeder universities for it. Atleast I have yet to hear of any of the big banks actively targeting it.

So its unlikely for me to get into investment bank even with a 2.1 degree at Sheffield? Because banks don't actively look for candidates there? Because surely I'm in the same level field as someone with a 2.1 at Bath for example? Because i know that Sheffield isn't one of this places where most investment banks look. But what if i work my hardest and get great internships and really put myself out there for consideration?
Sheffield will be a semi target university. I can link you a guy who works at an IB now having got a 2:1 in economics from Sheffield.

I myself am doing Chemical Engineering but at Birmingham university and hoping to into IB. University helps but isn't everything. The most important thing is securing a summer internship. By working hard at numerical tests etc, writing a good cover letter and really learning to sell yourself you can easily get into IBs.

Best of luck

I got ABBB at A levels. which is also another reason I'm unsure of investment banking. Do banks usually look at candidates with exceptional A Levels or is everyone with A level grades above ABB on a level playing field when being considered for interviews?
If you get a first at degree level then the investment banks will probably overlook your A levels if they aren't the greatest. Yours are fine though! Good luck!

Hi,

If you haven't already been in touch with the Careers Service, I'd recommend getting in touch. They will be able to advise on which investment banks visit Sheffield to recruit students and provide advice, guidance and workshops to help you prepare your application.

Good luck!

What's the thought process?
