I have considered joining the RAF as an engineering officer for a while now. However, after much research, it's sounds like a boring, administrative, role.

So this is why I am considering joining the Army as an engineering officer. I haven't done any research into being an engineering officer in the Army (regardless of regiment/corps) but it sounds like a more hands-on practical job which is something I'd like to do.

You still don't 'do' the job. You are still the boss and where all the administration gets done. It's different (whether it be REME or RE), largely because the role is different to the RAF. However, REME Officers on Army aircraft squadrons are in a very similar role to RAF engineering officers on aircraft squadrons.
The Army spend more time in less pleasant surroundings, but Officers do more thinking and admin than they do building and fixing.

Army Engineering Officer will be equally as boring and administrative than the RAF. IF you want to get practical then do not join up as an officer.
