What is an escape lane for and what is it made of and how it works? Watch

    Hi I'm currently studying GCSE OCR Physics and need to answer this question. Please could you reply with any answers you have along with websites and sources to support the answer.

    We have one near us, very steep hill, many years ago a wagons brakes failed and it crashed into a shop at the bottom and smashed the wall in. The escape lane is built into the hill like a hard shoulder, it is filled with sand, the theory being that you go into the lane if your brakes fail and gone to a stand still in the sand.
