Becoming A Toxicologist

Hi, I'm interested in becoming a toxicologist (obviously), and I was wondering what is the best way to get into a profession like that. It is well-paid, but there is quite high competetion for the top spots.

I wish to study Chemistry MChem @ Southampton Uni, then would I get a PhD or what? I'm a bit unsure, can you specialise? Any help would be great thanks.

Also, out of Reading Chem dpt, and Southampton, hwich is better/
I think an MSc in toxicology is usual after a degree in chemistry. Many forensic science graduates retrain to be toxicologists.

My advice would be to go to Southampton, although Reading would be a sound choice.

ITalya does MChem at Southampton - you should talk to her about the department

Do Chemistry, or a Chemistry related subject, it might be possible to get a job with just the bachelors, but the MSc will give you the edge, and if you are really keen then go into research, and maybe do a phd in Toxicological aspects in Hair (Hair is the way forward, but then and I am slightly biased)
Either way, not sure what stage you are at, but you need to be good at Biology, Chemistry and Maths (the more statistical side)
