    Why not both?

I don't have experience with a dedicated A-level Mechanics tbh. However, I'd be pretty sure that core maths is always going to be essential knowledge. And there are plenty of advanced mechanics modules to be taken as part of a Mathematics A-level anyway.

There is no "mechanics" A level.
You should do maths A level comprising core maths 1 to 4 plus a choice of two applications units e.g. Mechanics 1 and 2 (total 6 units). Ideally you should also do further maths that will include at least 2 units of further maths plus more application units, as many mechanics as you are able to do (total six units).
