I really enjoy music and wanted to play an instrument for a long time. I am going into year 13. Firstly, will playing an instrument during yr 13 make my grades worse and therefore is it a bad idea? Secondly, if I do get one I am torn between a keyboard or guitar. I like the keyboard more but a guitar is easier to store and easier to take to uni. I do enjoy the sound of a guitar. Thanks for any help you can give.

Keyboard/piano is more versitile than guitar, and if you own one it'll be more encouragement to make a habit of sitting down for an hour or so of an evening. If you're on guitar and carrying it around, you're more at risk of becoming one of these poseurs who just carries a guitar around.

i think it is a really good idea, i dont think itll get in the way of studies because i know loads of people who've been playing instruments throughout their time at school and its a really good thing to do in your spare time. I play piano violin and guitar

Guitar is more versatile than a piano by a mile. It's also more fun and gets all the girls. It's a very good way to relax and didn't hurt my grades I think.

You play me Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 on a guitar and I'll believe it's nearly as versatile.
