    Hello

I am thankfully in a very fortunate place as I have received both a offer of a graduate teaching position with Phd at one institution and full scholarship at this institution.

I am finding it hard to pick between both. The latter has a more specialised supervisor but the GTA programme provides teaching experience and a very structure programme. I am not necessarily looking into becoming a lecturer post-Phd but to have the option open there (having had experience) is an addition.

Does anyone have experience of a graduating teaching position with PHD or a similar scholarship that comes with teaching?

    Thanks

Having teaching experience is always a good thing even if you don't end up in academia. You will gain a load of transferable skills as well. However, supervisor and project are more important to pick accordingly.

My only concern is that I am literally stepping into a world of unknown at the second institution despite it probably being better in terms of project and specialism. I feel that the strength of the programme at the first institution with the GTA (although perhaps excessive considering it will be 12-15 hours teaching per week over four years) will make me a better, more rounded academic (if I want to go into that) and I also previously studied there so I am well accustomed to the environment.

Moving around is always good in academia but equally you are right about stepping into the unknown. I think you need to weigh up project and supervisor vs the teaching time and then decide. I did my PhD at an institute so no structured program or teaching but I went off and got myself some teaching experience anyway so it's doable.
