joints constantly clicking

My joints click constantly especially my knees, but also my ankles, toes, the joint at the top of my leg and tonight even my wrist has joined in! When im walking i can hear what sounds like a bone bonking around in my leg, and its really painful. I cant sit still for more than a few minuites without having a feeling in my legs that feels like there is a click which needs to 'come out', so i have to stretch out my leg and it gives a huge click. Obviously this is rather irratating in situations like at work when i am sitting down for hours on end, and at the cinema i look really fidgity kicking out my legs all the time and hitting the chair of the person infront.
Im learning to drive soon and im worried that its going to affect my driving.
Has anyone got any ideas of what i can do? any suppliments? Ive heard of cod liver oil but i wont be taking that as i am vegatarian.

This came about 2 years ago since i started yoga

erm..
drink more milk..get some calcium to help with your bones.i dont know what to suggest for the joints..cant you have cod liver oil tablets..will that suffice for vegetarians?

perhaps see a physio also.

I get this sort of thing too - and bad aches. A bit hypocritical of me, since I haven't, but you should see a doctor, they'll probably refer you to a chiropractor, but you have to pay for those - bout twenty quid a session. The NHS will carry out all the scans and tests for free, of course.

Joint clicking in general is normal, it's when it becomes painful is when you should start thinking about seeing your GP.

Glucosamine is widely accepted as being good for joints, but I'm not 100% if it's vegetarian, so it's worth having a look around online.

Here's a full list of what clicks in my body:

all my toes
all my fingers and thumbs
every vertebra in my back that I can move
my wrists
ankles
knees
elbows
neck in 5 different ways
hip/upper leg joint
jaw

it doesn't really hurt me that much so I ignore it. My knees used to click a lot more than they do now so maybe it'll settle down a bit for you too. I just hope they have a cure for arthritis when I'm older.

I used to get clicks all the time, I went to my GP and he told me to stop complaining. Mostly it was to do with growing, even at 19 I still get them occasionally.

Ive found a vegatarian Glucosamine at Holland and Barret health food shop, so i will buy some when i next go into town, thanks Ilora

I do believe chondroitin as well as glucosamine is also good for clicking joints. All of me clicks - my fingers and thumbs, wrists, elbows, shoulders, hips, knees, ankles and toes! I think it's just my neck that doesn't do it much! It can be so irritating, I sympathise with you having to sit down at work all day. Most of me just clicks periodically, but my ankles do it permanently - I'll be swivelling them for ages to try and get them to click back but they just keep on making that annoying little noise! I'm forever cracking my knuckles, it right annoys my family and friends, but it's rather addictive :p: Take some supplements - perhaps a general multivitamin supplement would help - and see if that helps.

I have this problem as well!!

yeah my doctor asked me to drink more milk and take calcium tablets.

I take vegetarian flax seed oil supplements too-contain omega 3 which is meant to be good for joints!

Go see your GP if you are worried I suppose!

It could be like loose cartilage or something, I have a similar problem with my knees and I was told could be that.

Go to the doctors, they'll sort you out.

If you go to a local herbal remedy shop and look for chotodrin and glucosamine complex tablets. If you just ask them for something to help with joints they'll probably be able to help. Nettle tea is traditionally taken for rheumatic pain, so you might consider getting some powdered nettle in tablet form if you're not up for herbal tea.

I would suggest yoga but since you're already doing that, I think that's all I know.

Where do you get calcium tablets from? or are they on prescription?

I've heard that the clicking occurs when bubbles develop in the fluid between the joints, and the noise heard is them popping.

That's awful, and weird. I've been getting a little stiff recently, from a rather staid job, and I was thinking of doing some yoga to loosen up. This puts a rather different light on it.

Hope some of these remedies help. You might also think about going for a massage, maybe it's related to tension(?)
