    Hi all,

I'm about to embark on an Open University course, with a view to doing a PGCE at the end and go into teaching. However though I'd like to go into teaching Secondary, but would like to keep my options open for teaching Primary too at some point.

Is this possible? Or is it a case of once you've chosen a route you stick to that age group?

The two courses I'm thinking of are BSc in Computing & IT or a BA(Hons) in Education Studies (Primary). I'd love to do the Computing degree as I already work in computing and web development, so I have experience and knowledge there, but don't know if that would limit my ability to teach primary. Or similarly if I do the Education degree whether it would limit me to teach Secondary!

    Any advice greatly received! Thanks

You definitely won't be able to teach in secondary schools with a Primary Education degree, but you could do either a Secondary or a Primary PGCE with a Computing degree. If you want to keep your options open, do the Computing and IT degree.

    What he said.

You'll also get a bursary if you do the computing PGCE as it's a shortage subject - not that you're in it for the money...
