I got a new job at the BBC as a production intern. I have no idea what to wear. I don't want to go looking too overdressed but at the same time don't want to appear too casual.
Should I go really smart on my first day. Anyone got experience working in the media and know of the dress code? Can't find anything online.

I think you should phone up HR and ask

Well, if the rumours about some of the past and present presenters are to believed, and if you are under age, you should wear a rape alarm and pepper spray.

But as a serious piece of advice, unless they otherwise stated, wear a suit. With a suit you can always dress down but if you go casual you can't dress up.

You've seen people working there? Wear what they wore. Otherwise I'd just go semi casual. Like a shirt and trousers it's formal enough and you can excuse being a bit underdressed because it's too hot.

Media is one of those sectors where the suit rules don't necessarily apply. I don't know exactly what a production assistant does, but if it involves a lot of walking around and possibly step ladders - wearing a suit could lead to a day 1 nightmare.

I would 100% call up and ask what the norm is for the BBC.
