I'm starting uni in a few weeks and am hoping to stick to a budget.

How much per week did you spend on food when livingaway from home? (roughly)

I spent £25 a week max, had decent freezer space so took advantage of offers on meat whenever i could.

I spent around £100 on food and toiletries per month.

£20 on toiletries at the beginning of the month (about £5 of that will be washing powder, the rest can be bought at a pound shop and Boots).

£11 at the beginning of the month will also get you 72 weetabix and 12 tins of Tuna in Sunflower Oil, that's your dinner and breakfast sorted bar bread and milk.

That leaves you £69 (minus the £9 for bread and milk over the month) with which to spend for your main meals (abour £15 per week).

I will say the biggest thing holding me back from better value is lack of freezer space.

£20-25 a week usually. If I spent more it was because I was eating junk/ far more food than I needed.

Your first shop will likely be more expensive as you have to buy cupboard staples (condiments, salt, pepper, cooking oil, spices etc)

this is a good point ^^

and it's worth spending a bit more on the first shop, if you can cook meals you enjoy you're less likely to waste money on a take out!

I spent £20-30 a week depending on how strict I was being budget wise, I think £25 was a decent point where I could get a couple of treats but still had to be sensible
