I was emailing school about sitting history and geography gcse exams in may/june as private candidate. I know that they include coursework. Then they sended me the email and they said"carry forward coursework marks". What does this mean? I'm sorry for not getting it however I'm very confused when it comes to coursework.

    Email from school :
You would not be allowed to sit a traditional GCSE in these subjects with us as they both have coursework elements and you are only allowed to sit written papers here. However, if you are resitting then you could potentially do them and carry forward coursework marks. If it is a first time entry you may want to consider an IGCSE with Edexcel. These equate to a 'normal' GCSE but do not have coursework units so you could take them here.

Have you done some coursework already at a school and got marks for it? In that case that's what they're referring to. If not then you may have to consider the IGCSE with Edexcel suggestion.

They are saying that you cannot do normal History or Geography with them as a normal GCSE because the coursework element cannot be done with them just the exams. That means you can only do GCSE if you have done the coursework element somewhere else and they can carry that mark forward.

The IGCSE option is open to you as an alternative because it does not involve coursework.. Perfectly acceptable as a qualification.

You have to decide whether doing coursework is important for you and if so, find somewhere else. Unless you were doing the whole thing as a student there rather thna just the exams, then I think you might find it hard to get somewhere who will let you do the coursework as a private candidate.
