Both times I've broken mine it was continual pain which spiked whenever I moved... it felt like someone was stabbing my heart and lungs when I was breathing. If you think you might have broken them go to A&E they give you some awesome painkillers, but other than that they can't do anything as strapping up the chest increases risk of infections as you aren't getting enough clean air to the bottom of your lungs.

How do you think you did it?

Well I've never had any, but from friends' experiences, I think you would definitely know about it. If in doubt, get it checked out. It might be just bruising, or a small fracture.

Yeah, but even if it is bruised or a fracture they still sort out the pain for you because sometimes broken ribs won't show up on an x-ray.
constant pain, but when you move it spikes like someone ramming a knife into your rib cage, you will definitely know if youve broke your ribs
If you had the pain that comes with broken ribs, I doubt you'd be here typing; you may however, have bruised them. Not quite as painful, but fantastically annoying all the same.
