Do you still have to go into school if you have no lessons at all on that day?

Depends on the institution but generally colleges won't make you go in. I had a day with no lessons and was not required to attend that day. If something was arranged like a tutor meeting, etc. I'd just get it moved to another day.

That's not to say the school/college can't ask you to come in but if there's no lessons to attend there's really no point. Most places are understanding of that and won't be unreasonable. One year I had a day where there was only a single 1 hour lesson. I'd spend more time getting ready and going to college/going home than actually being at college. So my teacher was reasonable about me not attending unless absolutely necessary. Probably helped that I was a good student and didn't need the lessons anyway.

Basically if there's a day you don't have lessons don't expect to go in.

At 6th form, I had one day on my timetable with no lessons at all, but I still had to go in, although I was allowed to leave before lunch. It depends on how strict your 6th form is, and their policy. It was actually quite useful going in for the day though, I had a chance to get loads of work done, and therefore didn't have much homework at all.
