Friday 2nd September - Summer update
Personal statement - will start once I've revised chemistry lol
UCAS form filling progress - school hasn't gave me the buzzword yet
Completed my 4 week Nuffield placement (physics based)
    C3 progress
Need to learn the differentiation & integration bit plus numerical methods

    FP2 progress
Chapter 1 & 4 done (complex numbers and de moivres theorem)
Probs get chapter 2 & 3 (roots of polynomials and summation of finite series) done on Monday
Chapter 5-7 I'll aim to get done by October
    FP2 Mock before Christmas

FP3 progress - not started yet
Will start as soon as school starts
    FP3 Mock before Christmas

CHEMISTRY - Will focus on next week. Revise AS & make notes on all the year 13 stuff I've missed.

    M3 - I won't start until after learning & practising the content for FP2 & FP3.
    Should start at around Christmas.

PHYSICS - One of the teachers is really crap. I hope she is better this year or I hope I've gotten used to her.
Or I'll be moaning again. Probs start learning the content myself as soon as I start school.

Oxford Chemistry TSA prep - they are only using this as a trial for this year.
So its not too important. Although I do want to do well in it.
I'll start as soon as my UCAS is sent off.

Some further info on what I've done that I can possibly talk about on my PS
    Attended UNIQ Physics Summer School
Attended Sutton Trust Cambridge Maths Summer School
Learnt a lot about studying these subjects at a higher level.
I recommend to anyone eligible to go on these things!
I mean I am applying for Chemistry right?!
Work experience week at a Unilever Research & Development Lab

Volunteering in a charity shop after GCSEs (lol if thats any help for my PS)
Some reading I've done (that isn't very useful for my ps lol)
    The Wonderful World of Relativity
    Stuff Matters by Mark Miodownik

As you can see it was a last minute decision for Chemistry. But I'm glad I've made it.
    Everything happens for a reason?!

Possible useful Chemistry further reading that I could do/dip into
    Why Chemical Reactions Happen
    Atkins' Physical Chemistry
    Oxford Chemistry primers
Thank god I have access to a uni library lol

I'd highly recommend a-levelchemistry.co.uk! I've not seen how much they've upgraded to the new spec but at least for the AQA spec I did, it was amazing. I pretty much revised purely off that website for my A2 exams, it was that good.

    Sunday 4th September - C3 progress
Had a relatively chilled day & managed to do some maths as well
Tomorrow I'll be focusing on Chemistry mainly. I haven't touched it since exams lol

I've quickly learnt the chain, product, quotient, differentiation rules for sinx, cosx, tanx, lnx, e
plus completed exam questions on all that stuff.
And by learnt I mean write down the rule & any explanations & copy out an example. Efficient right?
It feels weird. I remember trying to learn some chain & product for M2 and I found it really difficult to remember lol.
Honestly you do improve in learning stuff - its those summer schools swear

What I do when I self teach stuff is just read through the textbook & make notes, whilst listening to music. That is it. Unless I am seriously stuck/want to know more about something I go on YouTube or ask someone.

Completed old exam questions from various exam boards (in my lovely C3&C4 textbook)
on Trig, Functions, exponentials & logarithms yesterday.
Made quite a few mistakes ngl.But I think I am okay with it all now.

Looking at the AQA C3 spec all I need to learn to finish C3 is Integration & Numerical Methods
Probs leave all that numerical methods stuff to learn in class (so around Christmas hopefully lol).
I might just learn all of the Integration chapter tbh so I've got all the C3 & C4 knowledge for FP2.
Then I can start learning the other half of FP2.
And so I can attempt C3 past papers before October and fail miserably haha
lol maths lessons are going to be boring af. oh well.
I am not looking forward coming back to school tbh. And I like learning ffs.

Monday 5th September - this is why I don't work with plans
I said I would focus on Chemistry today. Instead I've ended up trying to finish off C3 lol

I did however get some textbooks from the library in the morning for possible further reading.
To anyone who is interested. I've picked up like 4 Oxford Chemistry primers plus an organic textbook.
    -Foundations of organic chemistry
    -Foundations of physical chemistry
    -Periodicity and the s & p-block elements
    -Foundations of Spectroscopy
-Organic Chemistry 2nd Edition (Clayden, Greeves, Warren) plus its solution manual.

lol I'll probably barely touch them. I should be able to dip into them though from time to time tho
I need to make sure my AS knowledge & some A2 knowledge is strong as well.
Of course the Why Chemical Reactions Happen shall be on that list one day. I couldn't find it in the library today.
No way I'm I buying it lol I'm poor af.

In terms of C3 - doing integration by parts & substitution questions rn.
Then its just volume of solid of revolution & numerical methods which should take a day tops.

Idk what I'll do tomorrow. Probably some more integration questions.
And some chemistry if I feel like it.
I really need to get started on my ps asap.

    Tuesday 6th September - bleh
Done a few more difficult Integration questions and made a tiny note on volume of revolution.
I'm being more efficient this year when I self teach. I've just picked questions that look hard and do them.
One of the questions took me aaaages to do. Was really stuck on it for a while and then I got the answer and I was so happy.
I also looked at a Edexcel C3 paper to see if I could start doing past papers & it seemed okay :/
I'll probably start Edexcel C3 papers soon ish. Then learn some numerical methods for AQA and do a proper C3 paper by October hopefully.

On a non-academic related note - I caught up on all the KUWTK episodes I've missed
I'm also getting moody again with the thought of school.
I have to register tomorrow and talk to a teacher about subjects for next year and stuff. bleh.
If my maths teacher gets mad at me for not dropping a subject I might just give him a really big
I really don't give two shits but I'll listen smile with the silent treatment. There is only so much I can take.

Currently reading a bit of that Advanced Chemistry textbook and typing new notes because why not.
I think I'll type up physics notes too to refresh my memory of AS lol.
And look at year 13 physics & chemistry stuff tomorrow to gauge how hard its gonna be this year.
everything will be smooth this year (i hope), fingers crossed my life doesn't go downhill from here.

Edit: I've ended up writing some of my PS instead.

Wednesday 7th September - sixth form
I went to enrol for year 13 today and ngl I've never felt so uncomfortable in my life waiting to speak to my head of sixth form.
My head of sixth form was really lovely though to me, but a ***** to everyone else.
All she cares is about grades and attempting to make our sixth form better academically ever since she got the job. But I guess she was really supportive about me carrying all 4 of my subjects and said other nice things. So she is in my good books for now.
I wish my maths teacher was like that. Ah well. So much pressure now for me to do well in all 4.

I emailed the head of maths & she gave me the heads up on self teaching FP2, FP3, M3 and will enter me for those exams. Hopefully that means I'll get access to online FMSP lectures for FP2 & FP3 as well.

Went out today with friends as well - its nice to see some people that I've barely seen over the summer.
Was lovely weather today. Ended up wasting money on a liquid lipstick again whoops.

Read & made notes from chapter 4 (structure of molecules) in organic textbook
So stuff on atomic orbitals, drawing molecular orbital diagrams, bond order and hybridisation.
Very useful & interesting - definitely will try to read more about this stuff online.
A hard read though. but nonetheless interesting!

One more day until school starts on FRIDAY
    A FRIDAY.
    I'm very nervous going back.

Sunday 11th September - making maths notes
School was meh. Usual stuff, spent the morning stressing over timetables (which we haven't got properly yet lol) and stuff. Erm. nothing exciting. I did have an awkward conversation with the head of maths and will have another one on Monday :|

I made C3 revision notes yesterday and read through this.
I think it was useful doing it. I also looked at implicit differentiation and the change of base log law because idk
it seemed like something to know? Been a while since I've done logs.
I've learnt quickly the numerical methods so I can start AQA C3 past papers as well.

The textbook I used was the Core Maths Advanced Level - Bostock & Chandler 3rd Edition which imo has better explanations than the other one (Pure Maths C3 & C4 by David Rayner) for some things. Both are really good though!
They both have decent worked examples & plenty of hard questions.

Personal statement wise, erm. I've still got a bit of time left
I mean school hasn't even started properly and I haven't been assigned a UCAS mentor thingy.
In terms of predicted grades again I won't know until I've spoke to my UCAS mentor.

I've also told my maths teachers I'd do a C3 mock in October
I mean I've got to show them that I deserve the A* prediction right?!
I did also offer that they can give me a past paper a week if they want to make sure I do know my stuff.
Oh dear that means I really need to nail down on everything
    I'm too keen lol
I'm trying to be more productive in maths lessons this year so instead of learning C3 I can spend it
learning FP2/C4 Hopefully I can just do what I want in lessons.

Will be starting my own A2 blog in November when I'm done with some personal stuff.
And we're both applying to Durham + Imperial :woo:
Would've applied to Oxbridge too but for MH reasons I won't be able to cope

Tuesday 20th September - fairly chilled
It doesn't feel like year 13 I feel like I am back in year 12 again sometimes.
Although I can feel the stress of UCAS.
I aim to get a personal statement full draft done by this Thursday as I have this ps checking workshop thing to go to next week.
I guess its an incentive to get a move on.

    Maths - predicted an A*
In lessons I've just been doing the exercises in the textbook and just going ahead practising whatever.
Today we had the other teacher for the first time and I feel really sorry for the rest of the class.
I feel like ranting again lol even though it doesn't concern me. BUT IT CONCERNS MY FRIENDS OK.
    Spoiler:
    Show
She doesn't even know what she is doing (to the point where she asked me to swap places with her for a bit lol)
and is very poor at explaining stuff. I had to help my classmates for the entire lesson.
she is nice though, asked me to be a little teacher checker because she can be quite dozey at times.
Ah I'm glad I've already learnt C3, just gotta do consistently well in papers.

In terms of AQA past papers, I've done a few old ones (so I guess the easier papers) and I've been dropping a few marks,
mainly on accuracy. But I guess I'm on track for the A* - I hope!
In terms of Edexcel past papers, my very first paper was an edexcel paper and I dropped 11 marks.
I think I need to do more Edexcel tbh.

Further Maths - predicted an A (hopefully!)
Online lectures don't start until next week. I'm looking forward to it!!!
For anyone interested in the timetable - I think I'll be following this plan-ish, I kinda want a full FP2 mock for Christmas But we shall see!
    Live online lectures for FP2 & FP3 are 6:30pm - 7:30pm for S2 its 8pm - 9pm hm messing with my shower time.
But I'm liking how its structured.

I've chosen my third module to be S2 to make my life a bit easier I find mechanics hard to self teach.
I don't think I could cope stressing with M3 even though I hate stats.

    Chemistry - predicted an A* (i think)
Going with the flow atm. ALTHOUGH I aim to get quite a lot of year 12 AS Chem revision notes done though tomorrow in my double free
In lessons its a bit slow. Hopefully it will speed up soon.

Physics - teacher said I'm capable of getting an A* so idk whether that means I'll get it
Again going with the flow atm. Lessons are going fairly slow, I don't really concentrate in physics.
I just tend to talk a lot (of crap) to people lol
But I'll revise year 12 AS physics once UCAS is out of the way.

Wednesday 21st September - trying to organise myself
I've only just realised that its nearly October. That is quite scary. Which I guess is good because I need that scare. I feel like I'm behind with things lol.

Maths - keep putting off doing some edexcel c3 past papers ive printed
And i need to learn some C4 for FP2 & FP3. Tbh may as well get the entire module out of the way before Christmas.
    Spoiler:
    Show
My maths teacher keeps telling me to stop going so far ahead
I don't care. I'm scared I'll do badly in FM. Not confident at all hence why I'm trying to get Maths "out of the way".

I can't afford to mess up this year, or have bad exams especially when unis are on the line.

Further Maths - my textbook arrived today yay!
Its Further Pure Mathematics by Brian & Mark Gaulter if anyone is wondering.
The online AQA textbooks lack questions and I need to do lots of practice for FM if I want that A.
The plan over this weekend & tomorrow is to get the first four chapters from this book done (so complex numbers, trig w/calculus, polar coordinates).
So FP2 revision & cover some FP3. Plus look over & make a few notes on the FP2 stuff I've done already from the AQA textbook.
Perhaps get started on the inverse trig chapter as well tomorrow.

Basically get my crap together for FM.

Physics - made some quick notes on circular motion & SHM & SHO from CGP textbook.
Probs need to read ahead & get some notes done soon on thermal physics & grav & electric fields.

Chemistry - kinda wasted my double free today oh well.
Need to make new revision notes for AS chem. I keep putting that off. Should only take me a few hours tops.
Then seriously need to read ahead & make notes.

Personal statement - getting there slowly. perhaps get it done by the end of the week?
I've been also trying to watch a chemistry lecture before I go to bed as well not going to plan rn as I end up falling asleep half way.

I also need to make sure I get all my homework done as soon as I get it.
WHAT IM I DOIN TO MYSELF LEAVING HOMEWORK LAST MINUTE ALL THE DAMN TIME.
I don't want everything to get on top of me!

    Little thought of the day...
    Spoiler:
    Show
Hmm investing so much time for FM this year kinda makes me want to aim for the A*.
    Motivation - Get 100 in M2 resit, 100 in S2, so I can get 70 in FP2/FP3

lol not gonna happen. This is why I want the A not A*. Maybe if I get lucky idk.

    Thursday 22nd September - mathsss
Did two edexcel papers on the go. hmm I'm inconsistent which isn't good. Ah well its not October yet.
I've still got plenty of time to try and get a consistent run. I don't want to try and finish C4 until I am sure that C3 is okay.
Btw I don't usually use the entire 1 hr and 30 minutes because I can't be bothered lol

    Edexcel June 2010 C3 – 68/75 (A* - just on the boundary) - roughly 1 hr
    Spoiler:
    Show
    Q1, Q4, Q5, Q6, Q7 – fine
Q2 Lost an accuracy mark and B1 mark for not seeing the squared bracket So got negative sign instead of positive.

Q3 Lost a method & accuracy mark for not choosing a suitable interval – I understand it now. They don’t have this on AQA, but I should have been able to use common sense to answer it ffs. I feel stupid.

Q8 Lost a method mark and accuracy mark for not factorising and rearrange for x. I got to the stage of e=(2x-1)/x-3 and then got confused to what to do next lol. I had to find x in terms of e. I feel stupid again now.

Thoughts – an easy paper that I should have got near full marks on
    Edexcel June 2011 C3 – 65/75 (A – 4 marks above boundary) – roughly 1 hr 10 minutes
    Spoiler:
    Show
    Q1, Q2, Q6, Q8 - fine
Q3 Lost a mark on sketching |f(-x)| wrong. I didn’t recognise that the both x-values would be –ve,
so the vertices would be touch the negative x-axis.

Q4 Lost a mark on getting the range wrong. Inequality sign the wrong way. Range of f(x) = 4 – ln(x+2) is x<= 4 , and then lost a mark on the range of the composite function fg(x) being <=4.

Q5 Accuracy marks dropped involving ln and solving for something. Ugh.

Q7 Lost 5 marks here. I didn’t differentiate properly. I tried to use logs for some reason. WHY IM I STUPID. THIS IS DIFFERENTIATION NOT INTEGRATION ARGHHHHHH. So yeah I bombed that.
Thoughts – I need to revise range & domain again.
FURTHER MATHS - I'll get the complex number chapter done todayy promise.
I'm going to aim for a chapter a day? so optimistic rn lol
Ah we shall see how it goesss.
    I shall edit this later.
